Good news was buried

Did anyone else read the good news in the Oct. 16 Eagle, found on the business page (“Budget deficit lowest since 2008”, page 20), lower inside right where few eyes ever roam, under the “In Brief” heading?

Oh, happy day! Maybe now the political spin can move away from how the government burdens its future citizens with extreme debt. Perhaps the government is making headway.

If you missed it, here’s a summary: in 2008 the government deficit was $680 billion; today it is $483 billion. This means instead of borrowing 40 cents of every dollar spent, as was the case in 2008, the government now must borrow only 14 cents on every dollar spent.

For the record, it would have been nice if this news had received bigger play so all the claims about continually increasing debt could be refuted.
