Emlenton Hill road work noted today

EMLENTON — Scrubgrass Grange will sponsor “Walk the Emlenton Hill” from 5 to 7 p.m. today to note improvements to the road.

Parking will be in the Crawford Center lot (formerly Emlenton School). Bus transit to the hill will be in the alley behind the school. The bus will not be handicapped accessible. No other vehicles will be permitted on the hill until the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2 p.m. Thursday.

Church planning weekend events

EMLENTON — New Zion Evangelical Congregational Church, 1195 Airport Road, will host families for “Trunk or Treat” from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Costumes may be worn.

The church will have a fall festival at noon Sunday following the worship service. Take tableservice and a dish to share.

Church offers trunk or treating

JEFFERSON TWP — Summit Presbyterian Church, 181 Caldwell Drive, will have “Trunk or Treating” for children fifth grade and younger at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Christian Community Outreach Building, 650 Saxonburg Road (formerly Jefferson Elementary School).

Butler Library holds ‘GeekFest’ Saturday

The Butler Public Library, 218 N. McKean St., will have a “GeekFest”from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

There will be barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lisa Harris, author of “Geechee Girls,” will discuss her book from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tom Wotus and Washburn Toney will provide music from noon to 2 p.m.

There also will be face painting, a photo booth, games, time capsules and crafts.

2 Child Check screenings set

Lifesteps will offer two Child Check screenings in November.

9 a.m. to noon Nov. 3, YMCA, 339 N. Washington St.

9 a.m. to noon, Nov. 17, Lifesteps, 383 New Castle Road

A Child Check screening evaluates a child’s development in playing, talking, seeing, hearing, moving and thinking.

The visit takes about 30 minutes and the results are discussed with the parents.

Safe driving courses slated

Seniors for Safe Driving will host classes for those age 55 and older.

5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Nov. 18, Kelly Chevrolet, Butler

8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 21, Butler Memorial Hospital

Seniors completing the course will receive a 5 percent reduction in their automobile insurance premiums for three years.
