Warrant issued for 1 suspect in violent city home invasion

Man was pistol whipped

A Butler man required medical treatment after police said he was pistol whipped last week during a violent home invasion robbery in the city.

Butler police have identified just one of the five suspected robbers who forced their way into an apartment in the 200 block of Zeigler Avenue.

Investigators continue to follow leads in the case, police Capt. David Dalcamo said Wednesday.

District Judge Pete Shaffer on Monday issued an arrest warrant for Whitney Ann Tucker, 19, no known address, who is charged with robbery, burglary and conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary.

The robbery occurred about 11 p.m. Oct. 16 at Lori McKinney’s apartment. Bryant Wells Sr. and Terri Mulneix were also there visiting.

The occupants told police that the five intruders — two black females and three black males — burst into the apartment after McKinney opened the door after hearing a knock.

Tucker was the only suspect the occupants claimed they recognized, police said.

One of the unknown males brandished a black handgun and started hitting Bryant in the head with its butt end. Moments earlier, the 45-year-old Bryant had been sleeping in a bedroom. He got up when he heard the knock on the door.

During the pistol-whipping, according to court documents, Tucker allegedly got hold of the gun and also hit Bryant in the head with it.

The occupants recounted that following the assault, Tucker grabbed Mulneix’s cell phone and fled the apartment with the other suspects, police said.

Bryant was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for injuries that left him with two large lumps on his head and a swollen jaw.

Dalcamo said the motive for the violent altercation is unclear but it may have stemmed from a prior disagreement between Bryant and at least one of the suspects.
