ADAMS TWP — Seneca Valley junior defender Paige Montrose suffered a leg injury in the first half of the Raiders' 3-0 WPIAL Class AAA quarterfinal girls soccer win over Fox Chapel Wednesday night.

Montrose left the Mars Athletic Complex on crutches and was taken to the hospital for X-rays.

Seneca Valley will play Penn-Trafford in the semifinals Monday.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has been told to testify in Ray Rice's appeal of his indefinite suspension.Former U.S. District Judge Barbara S. Jones, the neutral arbiter selected to hear the appeal, informed the parties of her decision. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because details haven't been made public.It's uncertain whether Goodell will testify. He said this month he would leave the decision to Judge Jones.NFL lawyers have argued that Goodell shouldn't have to testify, and instead were offering testimony from Jeff Pash, the NFL's general counsel, and Adolpho Birch, the NFL's vice president for labor policy. Pash and Birch were with Goodell when he met with Rice's side in June to talk about what happened when the former Pro Bowl running back hit his then-fiancee in an elevator.The hearing will be held Nov. 5 and 6, two people familiar with the case told the AP on Tuesday.

CANTON, Ohio — Former general managers Bill Polian and Ron Wolf were selected as contributor finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's class of 2015.Polian and Wolf were chosen by the Hall of Fame's contributor committee. Inductees will be selected Jan. 31, the day before the Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona.Mick Tingelhoff is the senior committee nominee, and there will be 15 modern era finalists.

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia was expected to file a request with the NCAA for tailback Todd Gurley's eligibility to be reinstated.Gurley, the Southeastern Conference's leading rusher, has been suspended for the last two games while Georgia investigated allegations he broke NCAA rules by receiving improper benefits.

SINGAPORE — Serena Williams was routed 6-0, 6-2 by Simona Halep in the WTA Finals in one of the most one-sided losses in the 18-time Grand Slam champion's career.The last time Williams managed to win just two games in a WTA Tour or Grand Slam match was in 1998 when she was 16. The loss in the round-robin match snapped Williams' 16-match winning streak at the year-end championships, where she is the two-time defending champion.
