Pyle, unopposed, continues his focus on transportation

He adds 2 county townships in Dec.

State Rep. Jeff Pyle, who has no Democratic opponent in the November election, plans to continue focusing on transportation in the next legislative session.

Pyle, R-60th, who picks up Buffalo and Winfield townships from Rep. Brian Ellis, R-11th, after the redistricting takes effect in December, was the prime sponsor of the 2013 transportation bill.

“That’s kind of my baby,” Pyle said.

He said roads and bridges deteriorated due to neglect.

“We let them go too long,” Pyle said.

Buffalo and Winfield township residents won’t have to travel far to visit an office of their new state representative, who is running for his sixth term.

In December, Pyle is opening a new office at 278 N. Pike Road (Route 356) in Buffalo.

He said the new office will provide accessibility for his Butler County constituents.

“Buffalo’s growing,” Pyle said.

He also represents 24 municipalities in Armstrong County and three municipalities in Indiana County.

Along with Harrisburg, Pyle already has offices in Ford City and Apollo in Armstrong County and Home in Indiana County.

He wants to work with the state Department of Transportation on taking measures to prevent future suicides from the Route 28 bridge bordering Butler and Armstrong counties.

The bridge, which is roughly 300 feet above Buffalo Creek and the Butler-Freeport Community Trail, has been the site of several suicides in recent years.

The most recent death occurred in August.

Pyle said a solution to stopping jumpers may be fencing along the sides of the bridge.

He will continue serving on several legislative committees, including transportation and appropriations.

Pyle, 50, lives in Ford City with his wife and two daughters.
