2:39 p.m. Thursday — Ronald L. Piper, 38, of Butler was arrested after allegedly shoplifting a $5 magazine from Friedman's supermarket on West Brady Street. Police said Piper, who has one prior shoplifting conviction, is charged with retail theft.The defendant also was advised that he was no longer permitted in the store, according to a police report.Butler Twp PoliceWednesday — Police charged a mother and daughter, both of Grove City, in connection with a suspected drug overdose at a Route 8 south hotel last week.Officers were called just after 11 a.m. Nov. 2 to the Super 8 and found 29-year-old Brooke D. Williams on the bathroom floor. She had a faint pulse and was having difficulty breathing, police said.Also in the bathroom was the woman's mother, 51-year-old Cindy L. Williams.Shortly before police arrived, hotel employees had rolled over Brooke Williams, in an attempt to help, and found a syringe underneath her, according to court documents. The employees also found several empty stamp bags of suspected heroin on the bathroom sink.Police suspect that after the first officer got there and he had momentarily left the bathroom, Cindy Williams flushed the syringe and stamp bags down the toilet, in an apparent attempt to destroy the evidence.Brooke Williams, who was later treated at Butler Memorial Hospital, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Cindy Williams is charged with tampering with physical evidence.9:19 a.m. Monday — Lawrence P. Blakeley, 53, was arrested after he allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend and threatened to shoot her during a domestic dispute at their home in the 200 block of Bartley Avenue.The woman, Charlotte Peffer, told police that the two had broken up and she was gathering her belongings when he threatened to kill her, according to court documents. He slammed her head off the door, police said, causing a bump on the side of the head.Peffer said she fled to another room. But moments later, she saw Blakeley holding a shotgun.Officers subsequently searched the suspect's home and found a 12-gauge shotgun underneath his bed. Police also found a suspected marijuana joint in an ashtray next to the bed, and a glass pipe and baggie filled with marijuana seeds in the night stand.According to court records, Blakeley on Thursday waived his preliminary hearing on misdemeanor charges in the case, including terroristic threats, simple assault, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and harassment. He is free on $10,000 bail.

Nov. 3 — Police charged Benjamin Eli Nowicki, 18, of Jefferson Township after he was found Oct. 17 on Creek Road behind the wheel of a car with an underage girl, suspected drugs and alcohol, and drug contraband.Officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to court documents. A search of the car turned up suspected marijuana, a marijuana pipe and six full cans of beer.Nowicki is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, underage possession of alcohol and corruption of minors.

Wednesday — Christopher J. Chittester, 40, of Cabot was charged with taking his girlfriend's car from her Winfield Township residence last week, without her permission.Police believe Chittester took Lisa Jo Casey's car on Nov. 4 while she was at work. He later crashed the car in New Kensington, Westmoreland County, and was arrested there for suspicion of driving under the influence.Casey's car was impounded as part of the police investigation.The woman told state police that she had her keys and never told her boyfriend he could take it. She said she believed he found a spare set of keys in the home and took the car.Chittester is charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, driving without a license and driving with a suspended license.Wednesday — Police charged Donald L. Reiland, 59, of Harrisville with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop at 6:37 p.m. Nov. 7 on Interstate 79 in Worth Township.In addition to driving under the influence, Reiland is charged with driving without a license, driving with a suspended license, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.
