Jean Margaretta Brubaker Fike

Jean Margaretta Brubaker Fike, 83, of Volant, Plain Grove Township, Lawrence County, went to be with her Lord at 1:50 a.m. Monday following a brief illness at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh.

She was born Nov. 27, 1930, in Derry Township, Mifflin County, to the late George Washington Brubaker and Willa May Gilbert.

She married Clair Eugene Fike Aug. 1, 1966.

Early in her life she worked at the Royal Dairy and also Fisher Electronics in Lewistown. Later she worked for the Salvation Army as a bell ringer for the Red Kettle Campaign.

Her family was her life, She was a homemaker and attended Zion Baptist Church in Worth Township, Butler County. She loved spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, working on puzzles, camping with her grandchildren, cleaning, reading books and cooking for her family. In her earlier years, she also loved hunting and fishing.

She is survived by her husband, Clair, at home; her daughter, Roxanne L. Houston of Grove City; two sons, Robert E. and his wife, Laurie L. Hawkins, of Slippery Rock, and Michael B. and his wife, Laura A. Hawkins, of Slippery Rock; her sister, June and her husband, Bruce Mensch, of Milton; seven grandchildren, Shawn M. Bonetti, Jennifer L. Lang, Nikki J. Bell, Ashley B. Crawford, Amanda K. Haag C.P.L., Candice F. Hawkins USMC, and Kaici E. Houston; and six great-grandchildren, Shawn M. Bonetti Jr., Christen R. Bonetti, Connor D. Grossman, Joshua R. Crawford, Riley Bonetti, and Andrew J. Crawford.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.

Fike — The family of Jean Margaretta Brubaker Fike, who passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, and from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Meling, pastor, and Jarrod Crawford presiding. Interment will be in Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mt. Chestnut.
