Police alerted, arrest suspect

CRANBERRY TWP — Thanks to a citizen who called 911, township police arrested a Beaver County man, who is a repeat felon, who is alleged to have burglarized an apartment and stolen a gun.

Township police Sgt. Chuck Mascellino said five officers arrested Damian K. Yandura, 24, of New Brighton about 4:30 p.m. Friday after finding him in a residence in the 1500 block of Cranberry Point Lane.

“It was a burglary a neighbor had seen,” Mascellino said. “(Yandura) was in a neighboring unit. He was caught and arrested. The stolen property from the home was recovered, including a pistol.”

Yandura is prohibited from having a gun because of his criminal record that shows prior felony convictions for drug possession and aggravated assault by vehicle while driving drunk.

He was arraigned Saturday on a list of charges and booked into the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.

He is charged with burglary, trespass, theft, receiving stolen property, illegally possessing a firearm and carrying a firearm without a permit, all felonies.

Additionally, he faces misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 12 before District Judge Dave Kovach.

Mascellino pointed out that the fast action of the witness was important in solving the alleged crime so quickly.

“If something is suspicious, don’t wait, call immediately,” he said.
