Girls win thrillers

Ali Goetz scored a basket with just 11 seconds remaining to lift the Mars girls basketball team to a thrilling 48-47 win over Slippery Rock Saturday night in the championship game of the Slippery Rock Tip-Off Tournament.

The Rockets had a late chance themselves, but had their final shot blocked to preserve victory for the Planets.

Goetz led all scorers with 19 points and was named Tournament MVP while teammate Lauren Wasylson scored 11 points.

Three Slippery Rock players reached double digits in points, including Steph Croll (17), Jenna Whitmer (12) and Marissa Siebka (11). Siebka added eight rebounds and a pair of assists.
