Tuesday — Police charged Amy Beth Sheptak, 43, of Center Township with bouncing a check for $271 on Nov. 3 at Elliott's Tire Service on East Cunningham Street. The check was returned Nov. 6 due to non-sufficient funds in the bank account on which it was written. Sheptak is charged with bad checks. A police report noted that she had one prior conviction for bad checks.Monday — An apparent sibling rivalry landed one brother in the hospital and another in trouble with the law. The brothers, 13 and 14, got into a fight at the family's home. The children's mother about 9:30 p.m. took the younger boy to Butler Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries in the fight. Police said they charged the older boy in juvenile court with simple assault.Monday — Police filed drug and theft-related charges against Tanya L. Tyson, 24, of Freeport stemming from a shoplifting incident last month at a South Main Street pharmacy. Tyson was caught just after 1 p.m. Nov. 30 taking a $4 bottle of skin lotion at Rite Aid. Police in charging documents noted that she has one prior shoplifting conviction. Officers searched her purse and found 13 empty stamp bags of suspected heroin, two used syringes and other drug contraband. Tyson is charged with retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

7:56 p.m. Monday — Vincent L. Nielsen, 46, of Butler was arrested after he went into a Zenith Road home without the occupant's permission. Nielsen was arraigned on a felony charge of trespass and a summary charge of public drunkenness. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.10:42 a.m. Monday — One person was hurt when a pickup truck driven by John Melnik, 68, of Butler rear-ended a car on East Jefferson Street at Delwood Road. The other driver, Sandra Murray, 48, of Ford City, Armstrong County, suffered a minor injury.12:25 a.m. Dec. 2 — Herman Espy, 23, of Huntingdon, Westmoreland County, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 422. He also was cited for speeding and careless driving.

10 p.m. Dec. 7 — Two 17-year-old boys escaped from Summit Academy reform school on Herman Road in Summit Township. Both youths were later found in Pittsburgh. They were arrested and charged with escape, and placed in Shuman Juvenile Detention Center in Pittsburgh.
