SRU records fall in victory

It was a record-setting night for the Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team.

The Rock defense held visiting Millersville to 16.9 percent shooting, the lowest percentage by a Rock opponent in school history, in a 77-49 win.

SRU (7-2, 3-1) out-rebounded Millersville 68-35 and out-scored the Mauraders 46-12 in the paint.

Erik Raleigh was also a record-setter for The Rock. He set the mark for blocked shots in a game with eight.

Raleigh also had 12 rebounds to lead SRU.

Antonio Butler scored 14 points, Frank Holloway and Kelvin Goodwin 13 each and Chaquille Pratt 10 to pace The Rock.

Millersville 73, SRU (women) 61 — D’Asia Chambers scored 17 points and also added 13 rebounds, but The Rock saw its winning streak snapped at four in a 73-61 loss to visiting Millersville at Morrow Field House.

SRU (5-3, 1-3) dug a hole for itself in the first half, falling behind 38-30 thanks to shooting only 26.5 percent from the floor.

Erica Aiello added 13 points and Breanna Gross 12 for The Rock.

For Chambers, it was her fifth double-double of the season and the senior forward is just nine points shy of 1,000 in her career.

Butler County Community College 74, Montgomery CC 73 — Alex Alverez scored 30 points and grabbed nine rebounds, converting a 3-point play with 20 seconds left for the win. Austin Miller added 27 points, Dom Pusateri 13 points and six assists for BC3 (4-7). Shae Stobert had five assists and a game-saving steal in the final seconds.

Alverez had 30 points and 14 rebounds, Miller 21 points and Stobert 11 in an 80-74 loss to Anna Arundal CC.

Anna Arundal CC 82, BC3 (women) 53 — Miranda Williams scored 20 points, Ashley Brehm had 12 points and seven assists, Lauren Bresnahan 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Pioneers (0-11).

Brehm had 15 points and five assists in a 120-36 loss to Montgomery CC.
