BUTLER TWP — Westbound traffic on Route 422 came to a halt this afternoon when a tractor-trailer hauling two vehicles overturned.

Township police said the rig, driven by Jared Markotan, 36, of North Jackson, Ohio, had just entered Route 422 from Route 8 when his trailer rolled.

The accident occurred just after noon.

Markotan’s truck crashed into an embankment on the southern side of the road. His cab did not roll, and he had no injuries.

Township police at the scene said the cause of the accident is still under investigation. State police were called to assist in the investigation.

The trailer spanned both lanes of westbound traffic. The two vehicles being carried — a Chevrolet Silverado pickup and a Dodge minivan — fell to the road just feet away from the toppled trailer.

The tractor-trailer is property of the Maximum Transport of Austintown, Ohio.

The state Department of Transportation also was called to assist.
