Car carrier flips, driver uninjured

BUTLER TWP — Westbound traffic on Route 422 came to a halt Friday afternoon after a tractor-trailer hauling two vehicles overturned.

Township police said the rig driven by Jared Markotan, 36, of North Jackson, Ohio had just entered Route 422 from Route 8 when his trailer rolled.

The accident occurred about 12:15 p.m. The road opened back up by 2 p.m.

“There were no injuries,” said Sgt. Robert Murphy with township police. “(The rig) was the only vehicle involved.”

Markotan’s truck crashed into an embankment on the southern side of the road. His cab did not roll.

State police were called to assist township police with the investigation.

“We’re still investigating the cause,” Murphy said at the scene. “State police were called because they have the expertise to evaluate these kinds of accidents. So we’ll get an opinion from them.”

No police report was available Saturday morning.

The two vehicles being carried — a Chevrolet Silverado pickup and a Dodge minivan — fell to the road just feet away from the toppled trailer.

Both came to a rest on their sides. Both were towed from the scene.

The tractor-trailer is property of the Maximum Transport of Austintown, Ohio.

Murphy said he had little information on the company.

The overturned trailer spanned both of the westbound lanes of Route 422. Traffic was rerouted to Route 8. The state Department of Transportation also was called to assist.

Crews were on scene until about 2 p.m.
