Winter Trails Day deadline nears

SLIPPERY ROCK — Celebrate Winter Trails Day, a free, fun-filled introduction to winter sports, Jan. 10 at Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, Slippery Rock.

There will be two snowshoeing programs for ages 8 and older. The first is from 10 a.m. to noon. The program will be repeated from 1 to 3 p.m.

The sessions will include an introduction to the sport and a winter activity hike. Snowshoe equipment will be provided, although personal equipment is welcomed.

Registration is required. Register by contacting the center at 724-794-6011 by Jan. 5.

Scouts can earn patch at Jennings

SLIPPERY ROCK — Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts from the Junior Girl Scout and Webelo Scout ages/levels and up are invited to attend “Scout Stewards,” a seasonal learning and volunteering experience, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 18 at Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, Slippery Rock.

Scouts will discover the importance of maintaining resources on public lands and participate in a project to help the park manage and enhance its prairie ecosystem.

Participating Scouts will receive a commemorative patch for this project.

The event is part of Jennings’ winter Prairie Improvement Day weekend.

Space is limited. Registration for individual Scouts or troops/packs/groups (of no more than 10) will begin at 9 a.m. Jan. 2 and close Jan. 9. To register, call the center at 724-794-6011.
