Frances Margaret Colosimo

Frances Colosimo

Frances Margaret Colosimo left this world Monday morning with her loving family at her bedside as God called her home to celebrate Christmas in Heaven with her husband, Guy, and in the company of the angels.

Frances was born on Sept. 16, 1935, the only child of George and Cleora Barron of Coal Town in Cherry Township, Butler County.

From humble beginnings, Frances began her life’s journey of friendship and service to others. She graduated from West Sunbury High School in 1953.

Whether she was serving up breakfast at The Spot or filing records at Cooper Bessemer, young Frances’ beautiful smile always warmed the hearts of those she touched, including Guy Colosimo, who she married on Nov. 12, 1955.

Frances and Guy moved to Butler and later to Fischer Heights in Center Township, where Frances excelled at motherhood, raising their four children, Patsi, Gerald, George and Kevin. Always willing to lend her time and talents, Frances took an active role in her children’s social activities, volunteering in any way possible. She embraced her role as grandmother to Christian and Nicole, and loved the company of her extended family, organizing dozens of family reunions.

Frances worked at Hart’s Department Store in Butler, and later Sears & Roebuck, where she retired more than 10 years ago. She relished the lasting friendships of the Sears retirees’ lunch group.

Throughout her entire adult life, Frances greatly enjoyed the constant support, companionship and collegiality of her many neighbors on McCandless Road.

Frances spent many of her golden years caring for her mother, and then for her beloved Guy. Always by their side, Frances selflessly and compassionately provided support, encouragement and loving care. When God called Guy home in 2011, Frances continued her mission of service to others by volunteering with the Butler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Even as her own health began to falter, Frances continued to serve the patients, providing them direction and comfort, always with her smile.

Frances belonged to the parish community of the St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Center Township where she regularly attended Mass with her family.

Her family is eternally grateful for the care and compassion shown Frances by the physicians, nurses and staff of Butler Memorial Hospital.

Frances will be deeply missed by her children, Patsi and her husband, Mark Photiou, of Alexandria, Va., Gerald Colosimo of Charlotte, N.C., George and his wife, Patty, Colosimo, of Renfrew, and Kevin Colosimo of Pittsburgh, and her grandchildren, Nicole Colosimo and Christian Thompson.

Our loss will be shared by the many relatives, friends and neighbors who knew and loved Frances for all of the joy she brought to their lives. Her memory will live forever in her many acts of kindness.
