Freeport erupts late

Freeport erupted for four goals in the third period, turning a stalemate into a 6-2 rout of Mars in PIHL Class A hockey action at Warrendale BladeRunners on Monday.

Hunter Kepple scored both of his goals in the final period, Stone Haberstroh added a pair of scores, while Tommy Intrieri and Tanner Hill also found the net for the Yellowjackets (11-4-1).

Robert Reichenbaugh tallied three assists for Freeport.

Kyle Thomas and Owen Vasbinder both scored for Mars, which was out-shot 33-24.

Matt Houston was the winning goalie after making 22 saves. Tyler Spreng had 27 saves for Mars (14-3).

Indoor Track and FieldAdrianna McGarrah won the long jump and the 3,200-meter relay unit of Shana Hoy, Odile Enslen, Michaela Brydon and Maggie Calvert won that event as the Butler girls competed in the Kent State High School Invitational Saturday.On the boys side, the 3,200 relay team of Brandon Critchlow, Josh Rader, Noah Beverage and Evan Knauer took first place.Nicole Fry placed second in the long and triple jump for the Golden Tornado girls.Other second-place finishes were turned in by the 1,600-meter relay team of Hoy, Enslen, Kelly Kabay and Emily Horstman, and the 800-meter relay team of Hoy, Savannah Miller, Enslen and Horstman.Other Tornado placers were Brydon in the 3,200 (third), McGarrah in the triple jump (fourth), Erin Fullerton in the triple jump (fifth), Horstman in the 200 meters (seventh) and 60 meters (eighth), Paige Lambermont in the high jump (seventh) and Erin LeMay in the mile (seventh).Placing fourth were Butler’s 3,200 relay team of Kabay, LeMay, Lambermont and Samantha Shuster and 1,600 relay unit of Bea Brown, Shuster, Hanna Sheaffer and Madison Tonini.Also medaling for the Butler boys were Rob Burdine, Jeff Bailey, Connor Frost, Luke Kernic, Brady Hartle, Derek Gengler, Mike Snow, Trevor Darian, Kolten Rape and Dante Grenci.
