Breen's 32 points spark CWNC girls

Sam Breen scored 32 points and also ripped down 17 rebounds as the Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic girls basketball team downed West Mifflin 64-46 Sunday afternoon.

Breen helped the Trojanettes (12-4) build a 36-15 lead at the half.

Kiki Palmer added 10 points for CWNC.

Jake Whitmer scored 20 points — including a 10-for-10 shooting night at the free throw line — as Slippery Rock picked up a big road region win over Hickory, 49-44, Saturday.

Brady Kadlubek added 11 points for the Rockets (7-9, 4-7).

Grove City 70, Franklin 68 — Danny Torok scored 22 points as the Eagles overcame a perfect shooting night at the line by Franklin in a two-point road region win.

The Knights were 15-of-15 at the line.

The Eagles (10-6, 8-2) also received 16 points from Kameron Patterson and 13 points from Jamie Hall.

Seneca Valley 69, Plum 50 — Zach Snyder scored 20 points as the Raiders got back to their winning ways with this win Sunday afternoon.

Jack Cook added 14 points and Dakota Topf 11 for Seneca Valley (12-6), which had lost five of its last six before the victory.

Indoor Track and Field

The Butler boys indoor track and field team came away with two relay victories at the TSTCA qualifying meet at Edinboro University this weekend.

The Golden Tornado distance medley relay team of Brandon Critchlow, Josh Rader, Patrick Fullerton and Adam Knauer placed first.

The Butler 800-meter relay team of Bob Burdine, John Yannotty, Connor Frost and Nicoli Peterson also claimed a first-place finish.

Derek Gengler met the indoor state qualifying standard in the shot put for the Golden Tornado.

On the girls side, the Butler 3,200-meter relay team of Paige Lambermont, Erin Lemay, Samanta Shuster and Kelly Kabay placed fifth as did the distance medley relay team of Lemay, Maddie Tonini, Kabay and Michaela Brydon.

Individually, Emily Hostman place fifth in the 400-meter dash and Liz Rakers and Lambermont were seventh in the shot put and high jump.

Youngstown State University Invitational — Slippery Rock High’s Fred Urbaniak placed third in the 60 hurdles, breaking his own school record with a time of 8.68 seconds to pace the Rockets’ day at the YSU meet.

Isaac Burton also set a school record for Slippery Rock, clearing 12-6 in the pole vault.

Megan Stephenson was second in the 60 dash with a time of 8.08, which is also a school record and Molly Joyce was fifth in the 60 hurdles with a time of 10.08.

Andrew Maxwell was fourth in the 3,200 with a time of 10:12.63.
