Butler wrestlers 3rd at CV duals

Butler 182-pounder Nick Roth went 5-0 with three pins in individual bouts and helped the Golden Tornado place third at the 12-team Chartiers Valley Wrestling Duals over the weekend.

Going 4-1 for Butler were Isaiah Christy (106 pounds), Caleb Baxter (138), Donovan Malovich (145), Hank Finan (152) and Jeremiah Bortmas (160).

Butler defeated Burgettstown (48-22), Yough (62-9) and Upper St. Clair (39-30) before falling to Bethel Park (35-30) in the semifinals.

The Golden Tornado beat Upper St. Clair (39-33) to earn third place. Norwin won the team title by defeating Bethel Park.

Girls Basketball

Grove City lost a 54-37 decision to host Oil City despite receiving 30 combined points from Brenna Deyarmin (16) and Jordyn Wyllie (14).

Hockey

Mars outshot Hempfield 45-20, but the Spartans scored two third-period goals to force a 2-2 tie in a Class A game at Warrendale BladeRunners.

Paul Maust scored twice for the Planets. Tyler Spreng made 18 saves for Mars (15-3-1).

Private Schools

Hannah Roth scored 21 points, collected six steals and four assists as the First Baptist Christian School girls basketball team defeated Evangel Heights Christian School, 49-32, over the weekend.

Caitlyn Mueller contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals while Lydia Roth had 12 points, 11 steals, five assists and blocked three shots. Alexis Barnhart and Casey Hall had seven rebounds each.

Evangel Heights 47, FBC (boys) 32 — Trevor Barnhart scored 18 points, had 12 rebounds and nine steals in the loss. Javier Iglesia scored seven points and had five assists, Aaron Drake seven points.

Aaron Drake had 24 points and 18 rebounds as the FBC junior varsity boys defeated Community Alliance, 45-32.
