Butler Junior High wrestlers Saavon Mosby at 210 pounds and Riley Burdine at 250 won their respective weight classes at the 35-team Southside Tournament Saturday.

Butler finished sixth in the tourney.

Mosby and Burdine both had three pins and both are undefeated on the season. Mosby (15-0) hasn’t allowed a point all year.

Butler’s Jason Stewart and Sam Lambermont placed fourth at 130 and 155 pounds, respectively, while Michael Crawford placed fifth at 122.

In other Golden Tornado action:

Stewart and Nate McDonald won via pin in a 54-18 dual match win over Knoch. Mosby and Lambermont won by major decision.

Mosby, Jacob White and McGwire Covert won via pin in a 44-40 dual match loss to Seneca Valley. Colton Spohn won by major decision.

Four Butler youth wrestlers fared well at tournaments over the weekend.

Santino Sloboda, 7, took first place in the 8-under 50-pound class at the South Fayette Lion-Heart Classic Novice Super Trophy Tournament. He also took first in the 7-under 50-pound class at the Reynolds Odd-Age Open in Greenville.

Nolan Shaner, 10, claimed second place in the 10-under 55-pound class in the South Fayette event.

Levi Donnel, 9, took first place in the 9-under 60-pound class at the Freedom Odd-Age Open. He also took first in the 10-under 60-pound class at the South Fayette tourney.

Steven Green, 12, of Butler took second place in the 12-under 100-pound class at The War at Woodland Hills Open tournament.

BasketballButler Catholic’s fifth-sixth grade boys improved to 9-0 with a 47-20 win over St. Teresa-Perrysville recently.Nathan Higgins paced the Saints with 16 points while Nicolas Maher had 15 and Carson Laconi 10. CJ Singleton led the team in steals and assists.
