Clay Twp. man faces drug charges

He is accused of growing marijuana

CLAY — A township man faces felony drug charges after state police last year found nine marijuana plants outside his home in the 700 block of Mahood Road.

Police on Tuesday got an arrest warrant for Justin X. Selfridge, 20.

A tipster in August notified authorities that Selfridge and a juvenile were growing marijuana, according to court documents. Police did not identify the youth.

Troopers on Aug. 3 searched Selfridge’s property, which included an all-terrain vehicle trail leading to a weeded area. Along the trail, police said they found a potting bucket that contained five marijuana plants that were 3 to 4 feet tall.

A sixth plant was growing in the ground next to the bucket.

The search continued and troopers later turned up three additional marijuana plants, all about 6 feet tall, growing in a field, documents said.

Selfridge denied knowing about the plants, investigators said.

Selfridge is charged with nine felony counts of manufacturing a controlled substance and nine misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance.

He also is charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Meanwhile, Selfridge already is awaiting trial in Butler County Court on charges of simple assault and theft in two unrelated criminal cases in 2014.
