Hugh W. Gillon Jr.

Hugh W. Gillon Jr. of Dover, Del., passed away Monday at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, Del., within hours of his wife of 63 years, Jean V. Gillon. He was 85.

Mr. Gillon was born May 7, 1929, in Pittsburgh to the late Hugh W. Gillon Sr. and Lucille Milheim Gillon. He was raised in Butler, resided there during the early years of his marriage and was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Butler during that time.

He had served in the U.S. Navy, post World War II as a medical corpsman during the Korean War, at the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Washington. Mr. Gillon worked as a chemist and sales representative for Standard Brands and R.T. Vanderbilt, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, Rubber Division. Mr. Gillon enjoyed reading, watching CBS Sunday Morning and sharing family history. 

He is survived by his daughters, Lynda Rae Gannon of Marydel, Del., and Caryl G. Young (Robert) of Newark, Del.; his sons, Hugh W. Gillon III of Dover, Del., and Patrick J. Gillon of Miramar, Fla.; his sisters, Kathleen James (Walt) of La Habra, Calif., and Margaret Ahlgrim (Roger) of Mears, Mich.; his grandchildren, H. Joseph Gannon III (Brie), Garrett M. Gannon (Erin), Erin Young Krause (Louis) and Craig G. Young; and his great-grandchildren, H. Joseph Gannon IV, Carmella Gannon, Tripp Gannon, twins Briggs and Finnley Gannon, and Louis C. Krause V. 

GILLON — Memorial services for Hugh W. Gillon Jr., who died Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, Del. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Interment will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, Del.For their warm support and kindness, the family would like to offer special thanks to those who cared for him: the good Samaritans of the Woodcrest neighborhood, Dover; Cadia Rehabilitation Broadmeadow, Middletown; BayHealth Kent General, Dover; and Delaware Hospice.In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S.
