SV, Butler win on ice

Austin Herrmann scored a goal with just one second remaining in overtime to lift the Seneca Valley hockey team to a 3-2 win over Upper St. Clair at Ice Castle Arena.

The winning tally was assisted by Christopher Lipnicky and Sam Johnson.

Alexander Crilley and Connor Williams both scored in the second period for the Raiders (10-8).

Alyssa Peterson stopped 40 shots in net for SV.

Butler 5, Mt. Lebanon 4 (OT) — Ben Rodgers’ goal off an assist from Connor Scott two minutes into the extra period earned the Golden Tornado this win in Mt. Lebanon.

Trailing 4-3, Butler’s Brendan Ackelson scored the equalizer with 2:25 left in regulation.

Marcus McCall, Dustin Davis and Trevor Gilliland also scored for Butler (10-6-3), which received 29 saves from goalie Clay Bachman.

Quaker Valley 7, Mars 4 — The Quakers scored six goals — including five from Connor Quinn — in the third period to storm back from a 3-1 deficit and beat the Planets in Tier 1 Western Conference action at Airport Ice Arena.

Paul Maust, Andrew Norris and Charles Osborne scored in the second period to put the Planets (15-4-1) ahead.

Mars was ahead 4-2 after Beau Heakins scored 5:06 into the third period.

Quaker Valley then scored the next five goals to win the game, four of which came from Quinn. Mars outshot the Quakers 35-27.

Thomas Jefferson 4, Freeport 3 — The Jaguars netted two third-period goals to eke out a win at Bethel Park BladeRunners.

Freeport (11-7-1) has lost three straight games. Stone Haberstroh, Michael Frazetta and Hunter Kepple all scored for the Yellowjackets.
