Butler shines at indoor meet

Butler’s indoor track 800-meter relay team of Bob Burdine, Jeff Bailey, Connor Frost and John Yannotty placed first at the TSTCA Open at Edinboro University this weekend.

The team turned in their best time of the season at 1 minute, 34.1 seconds.

Derek Gengler also captured first place at the meet with a throw of 52 feet, 10 inches in the shot put.

The Butler girls also had a good showing in Edinboro.

Kalynn Callihan, in her first indoor meet of the season, placed third in the shot put with a throw of 36-7.

Emily Horstman was fifth in the 200-meter dash, sixth in the 60-meter dash and anchored the 1,600-meter relay team with Alyssa DiPippa, Kelly Kabay and Shana Hoy which placed fourth.

The girls 3,200-meter relay team of Paige Lambermont, Samantha Shuster, Madison Tonini and Maggie Calvert placed seventh.

Youngstown State meet — Andrew Maxwell finished fifth, but broke his own school indoor record in the 3,200 with a time of 9:55.56 for Slippery Rock High.

The Rockets’ 3,200-meter relay team of Will Henry, Mark Cessar, Josh Jones and Brady Kadlubek also broke a school record while placing sixth. No time was available.

Kadlubek also broke the school record in the 800 with a time of 2:04.46.

Megan Gresgott finished sixth in the triple jump for the Rockets with a mark of 27-5 and Fred Urbaniak was eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.90 seconds.
