Keystone XL coming

After several evaluation exercises and years of excuses, the Keystone XL Pipeline Act was recently passed. The Senate voted 62-36 in favor, with two no-votes; the House voted 270 yeas, 152 nays with 10 no-votes.

The Senate votes tallied 28 states, including Pennsylvania, approving, 15 disapproving and seven neutrals that included Delaware, Maine, Ohio and Virginia.

Curiously, far distant states, including Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont, arrogantly voted to disqualify the pipeline home-site states’ benefits, responsibilities and rights.

Political operatives rumor that President Barack Obama will veto — despite the states’ and peoples’ will. So, voters should urge Pennsylvania’s delegation to demand Obama justify a veto and, if illegitimate, override it.

The vote totals were short of a two-thirds override. But were they political theater or true and valid votes casts? A veto override can be realized, but vocal public support is crucial for the veto override to succeed.

Let’s communicate our approval to Pennsylvania’s 20 congressional leaders, and those of other states.Persuade, promote and support the home-site states enacting the construction legislation and, if necessary, the veto override.
