GC woman wins $2M Pa. jackpot

Ticket was from Rite Aid in SR

GROVE CITY — A Grove City area woman is a fair bit richer these days.

Mary Fowler won the $2 million jackpot from the Feb. 12 Match 6 Lotto drawing from the Pennsylvania Lottery. She bought her ticket at the Rite Aid store at 221 Grove City Road in Slippery Rock.

She claimed her ticket sometime last week. Through the lottery, Fowler declined to comment and requested that she not be contacted by the media.

Her winning numbers were 07-16-27-28-33-37.

Fowler had a year to collect the ticket, but she claimed it within two weeks. She will receive $1.5 million, which is the jackpot minus federal tax holdings. Lottery wins are not subject to state or local taxes.

Lottery spokesman Lauren Bottaro said Fowler either will get a check through certified mail or can arrange to pick the winnings up at a lottery office.

The Rite Aid store where she bought the ticket will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Beth Black, executive director of the Grove City Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber is excited that the winner is from Grove City.

“Our hope is that the winnings will bring her joy and will (help) build the local economy,” Black said.

Mayor Randy Riddle said he does not know Fowler. Out of respect for her privacy, he declined to comment.

In downtown Grove City, some people were thrilled that a winner came from the area.

Beth Shuler of Mercer said she does not know Fowler, but she is excited about the win.

“I’m happy for her,” Shuler said.

Although she does not buy lottery tickets, she said she would not have minded if she bought the one Fowler won.

Erin Ferguson, a Slippery Rock University student, also was happy about the win. She is not a regular lottery ticket buyer.

“Every once and a while (I do),” Ferguson said.

More than 102,200 other Lottery Match 6 players also won prizes in the drawing. Those prizes range from $2 to $2,500.

In the 2013-14 fiscal year, in addition to awarding more than $35 million in prizes to Butler County winners, the lottery contributed more than $14.7 million to programs serving the county’s older residents.

Match 6 Lotto drawings are held Monday and Thursday evenings.
