Numerous Butler County athletes fared well at the recent Steel City Teen Bench Press & Deadlift meet.

Among the winners were:

Josh Hood, 18, of Knoch, with a lift of 320 pounds in the 198-pound bench press.

Chris Smith, 18, of Butler with a lift of 420 pounds in the 242-pound bench press. He was named the meet's outstanding bench presser.

Nathan Barnhart, 18, of Karns City, with a lift of 500 pounds in the 220-pound deadlift.

Noah Barnhart, 16, of Karns City with a lift of 450 pounds in the 198-pound deadlift.

Blaine Wilson, 15, of Karns City with a lift of 285 pounds in the 165-pound bench press.

Devin Fitz, 17, of Butler with a lift of 450 pounds in the 165-pound deadlift class.

Evan Toth, 19, of Butler with a lift of 425 pounds in the 275-pound bench press.

Mars grad Getsy keys WestminsterNEW WILMINGTON — Mars graduate Matt Getsy scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds Monday to help Westminster College defeat Washington & Jefferson, 79-63, in the play-in game for the Presidents' Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament.Getsy is a sophomore forward for the Titans.

James snap Pippen’s NBA assist recordAUBURN HILLS, Mich. — LeBron James broke Scottie Pippen’s NBA record for career assists by a forward when he found Kevin Love for an open 3-pointer against the Detroit Pistons.Pippen had held the top mark of 6,135 since taking it from John Havlicek in 2004. James tied that with an alley-oop pass to Timofey Mozgov early in the second quarter.James finished with 11 assists in the game, giving him 6,142 for his career.

Plans approved for L.A. stadiumINGLEWOOD, Calif. — The Inglewood City Council approved plans to build a football stadium that includes St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke as a partner, clearing a path for the NFL’s return to the Los Angeles area for the first time in two decades.The council approved the $2 billion plan with a 5-0 vote after a meeting with several hours of public comment and many vocal Rams fans wearing jerseys in attendance.

Love III named Ryder Cup captainPALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — Davis Love III is getting another shot as U.S. Ryder Cup captain in 2016.Love was captain in a losing effort at Medinah in 2012. He becomes the first repeat U.S. captain since Jack Nicklaus in 1987. In some respects, he’s the first captain in a new Ryder Cup process.
