Quartets coached by Greater Harmony place high at Ohio competition

Greater Harmony Chorus, an area chapter of Sweet Adelines International, coached and sponsored two Young Women in Harmony quartets at the Rising Star competition recently in Huron, Ohio.

The quartets won second and third places.

The group Here Comes Treble garnered second place. Group members are tenor Hannah Clifford from Slippery Rock University; lead Catriona Reynolds from Knoch High School, bass Ariel Clifford from Westminster College, and baritone Maeve Hendricks from Penn State University. Ariel and Hannah are sisters.

A quartet of Seneca Valley High School students called Dotted Quarters took third place. Group members are tenor Madison Lopiccolo, lead Lauren Ottavaiani, bass Samantha Tedrow, and baritone Hayley Hoss.

Both quartets were coached by members of Greater Harmony Chorus. Lynn Ross of Gibsonia, a member of Greater Harmony for 35 years, coached Here Comes Treble; Jennifer Fogle of Verona, a Sweet Adeline for 40 years, coached Dotted Quarters.

Young Women in Harmony is a program started by Sweet Adelines to teach the art of a cappella barbershop singing to young women ages 13 to 25.

Young Women in Harmony quartets that compete in the annual Rising Star competition and place first in their region have the opportunity to compete at the international level with quartets from around the world.

Greater Harmony Chorus rehearses from 6:45 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays at Deer Creek Presbyterian Church on Bairdford Road. Visitors and prospective members may attend.
