Slippery Rock Township trailer total loss after fire

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP, Lawrence County — A double-wide trailer is a total loss following a fire Friday morning in the 8000 block of Old Route 422 in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.

Township Fire Chief George Johnson said crews responded to a fully involved fire about 9 a.m.

“There were flames coming out of the eaves of the structure, so it was pretty well under way when we got there,” Johnson said.

Crews were there until about 1:40 p.m.

Johnson said Robbie and Valerie Leasure, who are siblings, lived in the home. The American Red Cross was called to assist them.

No injuries were reported.

Johnson said the home did not have working smoke detectors.

“Everybody needs to have working smoke detector in their home,” the chief said, adding the residents were lucky they woke up for work.

The state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, which was just over the Butler County line.

Johnson said he was not sure of the cause, but said he believes the fire started in the laundry room.

Crews from eight fire departments responded to the call, including the Portersville Volunteer Fire Department.

“I can’t stress enough how well the men worked together,” Johnson said. “Mutual aid is a big help, especially during daytime fires when the manpower isn’t always available from each department.”

Johnson said he believed the home is insured by its owner.
