Pool work gets OK

CRANBERRY TWP — The township will spend nearly $1.7 million to upgrade the North Boundary Water Park.

The township supervisors approved that action Thursday night.

Township officials originally planned to upgrade the facility last fall, but improvements were delayed when bids came in too high.

Officials sent out requests for bids again and listed those new ones at their meeting Thursday. The water park renovations are expected to occur this fall after the water park closes for the summer.

Pete Geis, director of the township’s park and recreations department, said the scope of the project hasn’t changed much since the original plans.

He said plans still call for a complete resurfacing of the pool, adding a dump bucket and climbing wall, increasing the size of the zero-depth entry pool and installing a new filtration system.

Geis said he’s happy the renovations are back on schedule, given that the project remained in limbo since the fall.

“After tonight we’re back on track,” Geis said. “This time the bids came back lower than our budgeted range, and we had several more bids this time than the last time around. It was more of a competitive process.”

The supervisors approved a $1.19 million contract for general construction to Mid Atlantic Construction, a $424,000 contract for general construction to the R.D. Stewart Co. and $82,830 for electrical services to John O’Brien Electric.
