O’Donnell shines in La Roche title run

PITTSBURGH — Butler graduate Mackenzie O’Donnell scored a game-high 24 points Saturday as La Roche won its fifth straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference women’s basketball championship.

The sophomore center sank 12 of 14 free throws in the Redhawks’ 73-55 victory over Pitt-Greensburg.

La Roche will advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Swartwout helps St. Vincent win PAC

LATROBE — Butler graduate Bobby Swartwout contributed six points and six rebounds off the bench in St. Vincent College’s 72-66 Presidents’ Athletic Conference men’s basketball tournament championship win over Waynesburg.

Swartwout is a junior center for St. Vincent (22-6), which won its third successive league title.

Bresnahan, Dukes post 20th victory

PITTSBURGH — Duquesne senior guard and Butler graduate Olivia Bresnahan scored seven points, grabbed six rebounds and had four assists in the Dukes’ 51-43 women’s basketball win over St. Bonaventure Sunday.

Bresnahan played a team-high 35 minutes for Duquesne (20-89, 12-4), which set a program record with its 12th Atlantic 10 Conference win of the season.

SRU’s Palenchak wins scholar award

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University junior middle-distance runner Tyler Palenchak has earned the PSAC Male Champion Scholar Award.

Palenchak received the award at the PSAC Indoor Track and Field Championships Sunday at Edinboro University.

The award is presented by the PSAC at each of its championship competitions to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average. Palenchak is enrolled in SRU’s exercise science and doctor pf physical therapy program and has a 3.94 GPA.
