Pa. deer harvest down 14 percent

The Pennsylvania Game Commission has reported that hunters harvested an estimated 303,973 deer during the 2014-15 season, down 14 percent from last season’s 352,920.

Statewide, there were 59,500 fewer antlerless licenses issued this season. The antlerless success rate remained at about 25 percent for the licenses issued.

SRU pitchers earn conference honors

Slippery Rock University baseball pitcher Kyle Schneider and softball hurler Brooke Dawson have been named PSAC West Pitchers of the Week.

Schneider struck out nine and tossed a four-hitter in an 8-1 win over West Chester. He did not walk a batter.

Dawson went 2-0 in two appearances, striking out 11 in 12 innings and compiling a 1.17 earned run average in wins over Notre Dame (Ohio) and Mercy.

NCAA hoop pool players sought

The Butler Eagle sports department is looking for people who have been involved with NCAA Basketball Tournament pools.

This includes anyone who has been running a good-sized office pool, participates in a number of NCAA pools or contests, has won a number of bracket pools, etc., or anyone with an interesting story to tell concerning the brackets.
