Arthur C. 'Tex' Barnhart

Arthur C. 'Tex' Barnhart, 86, of Chicora passed away at 3:15 p.m. Monday in the Chicora Medical Center following a short illness.

Born on Nov. 14, 1928, in Karns City, he was the son of the late Frank A. Barnhart and Agnes Maude Snape Barnhart Ferris Aldinger.

He worked at Koppers, “INDSPEC,” retiring in 1989 after 41 years of service.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the artillery division during the Korean War from January 1951 to January 1953.

He was a member of the Chicora Moose and was a big sports fan, listening to all the games on the radio, especially the Chicago Cubs. When there were no sports to listen to, he enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles.

In 1946, he was delighted to be a member of Fairview Township High School's basketball team, going all the way to the state playoffs.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley L. Reep Barnhart, who he married on Dec. 10, 1954; his daughter, Sharon L. McElravy and her husband, Randy, of Karns City; his sons, Francis A. Barnhart of Chicora and Stephen P. Barnhart and his wife, Shelley, of Chicora; his five grandchildren; his three stepgrandsons; his seven great-grandchildren; his 10 step-great-grandchildren; his step-great-great-granddaughter; his sister, Patricia Worley of Butler; his brother, James Ferris and his wife, Karen, of Texas; his sisters-in-law, Dolores Barnhart of Oklahoma, Wanda Daugherty of Clarion and Jean Clark of Butler, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ellen Angert; his brothers, Thomas Barnhart, Edward Barnhart and Robert Ferris; one granddaughter, and one step-great-grandson.

Barnhart — The friends of Arthur C. 'Tex' Barnhart, who passed away Monday, March 16, 2015, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets, Chicora. Full military honors will be at 6:30 p.m. by the Chicora and Bradys Bend American Legion and the Chicora VFW.The funeral service will follow visitation at 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Ronald Roudebush. Interment will be in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Butler Blind Association, 322 N.
