Gerald William Laidlaw

Gerald William Laidlaw, 78, of Cabot passed away Tuesday at his home.

Born on May 29, 1936, in Cabot, he was the son of the late John Laidlaw and Hester Corbett Laidlaw.

He was a graduate of Winfield Consolidated in 1954.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 82nd Airborne division and was discharged in 1957.

Gerald retired from US Steel in 1998 after 40 years of service.

He was a member of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, an honorary member of the United Steelworkers of America, and a lifelong member of the Cabot United Methodist Church.

Gerald enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, furniture restoration, bird watching, his dogs, and spending time with his grandchildren.Surviving are his loving wife of 25 years, Violet Laidlaw; his children, Larry (Sandy) Laidlaw of Cabot, Sharon (Roland) Hall of Cabot, Michelle (Rob) Moser of Cabot, and Jody (Aaron) Timko of Cabot; his daughter-in-law, Dixie Laidlaw of Saxonburg; his 14 grandchildren; his four great-grandchildren; his brothers, Ronald Laidlaw of Sandy Lake and Gale (Barb) Laidlaw of Saxonburg; his sisters, Janet (John) Buchan of Cabot, Sally (Russell) Foran of Sarver and Linda Morrison of Sarver; his stepdaughter, Leslie Vandegrift of Butler, and his stepson, Chris (Rhonda) Caldwell of Cabot.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Laidlaw Geist; his son, Jeffrey L. Laidlaw; his brothers, Claude Laidlaw and James Laidlaw; his granddaughter, Ashley Hall; his grandson, Parker Timko, and his great-grandson, Jameson Quinn.

Laidlaw — The friends of Gerald William Laidlaw, who passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Fox Funeral Home, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg.A Masonic service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Cabot United Methodist Church, 707 Winfield Road, Cabot, with the Rev. Jason McQueen officiating.
