Harvey G. 'Dewey' Blystone

Harvey G. “Dewey” Blystone, 82, of Buena Vista Road, Chicora, passed away early Thursday morning at Sugarcreek Rest following an extended illness.

Dewey was born on Dec. 4, 1932, in Karns City. He was the son of the late Frank and Anna Adams Blystone.

Dewey attended Karns City High School.

Mr. Blystone served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was first employed at the Blystone Coal Mine in Chicora and later by the Penreco Corp. in Karns City. He retired from Penreco in 1995.

He was a member of the Chicora Moose Lodge. Dewey was an avid outdoorsman, often spending hours taking care of his horses and going on horseback rides.

Dewey is survived by his longtime companion, Patty Snyder; his three sons, David Blystone of Sharon, Nathan Blystone of Chicora and Aaron Blystone of Butler; his two daughters, Lynn Crawford of Sharon and Jennifer Blystone of Chicora; his sister, Joyce Schrecongost of Karns City; his 11 grandchildren; his 10 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence Weckerly Blystone; his brother, Jack Blystone; his sister, Frankie Norris; and his grandson, John Bowser.

Blystone — The friends of Harvey G. “Dewey” Blystone, who passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015, will be received from noon until the time of a funeral service at 3 p.m. Monday at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City, with the Rev. Ron Roudebush, pastor of the Karns City Church of God of Prophecy, officiating. Military honors provided by the Chicora and Bradys Bend American Legion and Chicora VFW post will follow at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Parker Presbyterian Cemetery, Parker.Memorial contributions in Mr. Blystone's name may be made to the Hile Funeral Home, P.O.
