A right to discriminate

Jim Cunningham’s letter (“Sen. Toomey wrong,” March 19) illustrates the conflict between the rights of property owners and service providers and those who subvert those rights in the name of equality.

My rights as a property owner and a service provider cease to exist if I am compelled to serve those who place their rights above my own. Freedom of association and a free market is the true American way and once was protected by the Constitution. If you don’t like my convictions, then you are free to patronize another.

Human nature never changes. Our Constitution was designed to protect us from the changing passions of majority rule. If you compel those who do not wish to be dragged into the latest collectivist scheme of social experimentation you are no better than the tyrant who demands our submission to his will.
