Knoch grad brings all that jazz to show

Knoch High School alum Artie Black will bring his quartet to Butler for a 7:30 p.m. show Tuesday.

The Artie Black Quartet will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Black is a graduate of Knoch High School who lives in Chicago where he is a jazz saxophonist, music educator and composer.

His quartet first played together in July 2013 and has appeared throughout Chicago since that time. The band has appeared at the Green Mill’s Composer’s Collective series, at Constellation’s Sounds of the City Workshop, and at Jerry’s, Local Root, the Undergroud Wonderbar, and Andy’s Jazz Club.

In addition to Black, who plays tenor saxophone, band members are: guitarist Jeff Swanson, bass player John Sims and drummer Marcus Evans.

Performing music composed by Swanson and Black, the quartet has developed a sound that emphasizes memorable jazz melodies and a simmering intensity.

This performance in Butler at Morgyn’s Frozen Yogurt and Treats, 152 N. Main St., is a part of the quartet’s spring tour, which will culminate in the recording of the group’s debut album, “Living Bridge.”

Cover charge for the Butler show is $10.
