Construction to begin on replacing aging water main

Company targets fall for completion

Pennsylvania American Water will replace more than five miles of aging water main in Butler County.

The combined cost of these system improvements is about $4.5 million, the company said Tuesday in an announcement.

“Outdated and deteriorating water mains in Butler County make it necessary to inspect and replace pipes that date back, in some cases, to the early 1900s,” said Mark Smith, northwest field operations manager, in a release. “These investments will improve reliability and flows for fire protection.”

Construction is starting to replace aging water main in these communities:

• Butler Township along Benbrook Road, Brown Avenue, Graham Road, Marvin Street, Oakvale Boulevard, Remil Drive and Summit Way

• Center Township along Beechwood Boulevard, Lakewood Drive and Route 8

• Butler along 2nd Avenue, 4th Street, Broad Street, Cleveland Street, East Locust, Eola Street, Hemphling Street, Howard Street, North 7th Avenue, McClain Avenue, State Street and Taft Street

• Saxonburg along Butler Road

The company expects to complete the work by fall.

During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and lower than normal water pressure, according to the release.
