Walkers — get set — go — on National Walking Day

CRANBERRY TWP — About 300 people took off walking Wednesday, and they look to keep doing that for the rest of the month.

Employees from about 40 companies in Cranberry Woods and the Thorn Hill Industrial Park will compete this month to see which company has the healthiest employees.

Those employees will self-report the number of miles they walked in a week, and at the end of the month, an American Heart Association representative will tally the results.

The person who logs the most miles and the company that logs the most miles will get trophies.

The monthlong competition that kicked off in the Cranberry Woods Office Park took place on National Walking Day.

Sponsored by the American Heart Association, employees walked for an hour during their lunch breaks to get a head start on the competition.

The Heart Association promoted National Walking Day and walking as an exercise.

Brandon Berns, the heart walk director for Pittsburgh and Cranberry Township, said, “Walking is one of the easiest forms of exercise there is,” he said.
