SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University senior outfielder Adam Urbania has been named one of 32 NCAA Division II baseball players considered for the 2015 Tino Martinez Award.

The award recognizes the top player in the nation and will be announced June 1.

Urbania is hitting .435 with 38 runs scored, seven homers and 42 RBI. His current 28-game hitting streak is the longest in the region. Urbania leads the PSAC with 22 doubles and ranks third with 64 hits.

Rock baseball sweeps PSAC weekly honors

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University’s Adam Urbania and Alex Pantuso have been named PSAC West Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Urbania hit .500 (17-for-34) with 11 runs scored, 13 RBI, four doubles and two home runs. Pantuso was 2-0 in two starts, allowing three runs and striking out 14 in 11.1 innings pitched.

Butler grad Allen 3rd in heptathlon

CORTLAND, NY — Butler graduate and Penn State Behrend track and field standout Paige Allen placed third recently at a heptathlon in New York.

Allen broke the previous school record of 3,147 points in the event by tallying 3,548. She won the 800 meters, placed fourth in the long jump and ninth in the javelin.

GCC golfers claim Spring Invite title

NEW CASTLE — Slippery Rock High graduate and Grove City College senior golfer Brian Giesler earned his second medalist honor of the spring season and led the Wolverines to the team title at the Westminster Spring Invite Monday at New Castle Country Cub.

Giesler carded a 1-over-par 73 to win the event. Three other GCC golfers placed among the top nine individuals. Freshman Jorden Alfery tied for third in the 41-golfer field with a 76. Senior and Mars graduate Christian Locher was fifth with a 77, freshman and Butler graduate Anthony Smaldino eighth with a 78.
