Gratefully drying out

We would like to thank all of those who helped us when our house flooded on April 13. Without the community’s support we would not have been able to get as far along as we are in the reclaiming process.

Special thanks to the Butler Eagle for printing this thank-you. Dave Biondi and cameraman Michael at Chanel 11 News, you helped make being in the news less harrowing for me.

To the Butler City Police officer who didn’t give up on waking us at 5 a.m., I’m sorry I didn’t get your name. Thank you, your persistence helped prevent even more damage, especially to my vehicle. I can’t imagine what being without a mode of transportation at this time would be like.

Joel at Pennsylvania Water: sorry about my tears, you were most kind. Deepest gratitude for your speedy assistance.

The workers and receptionists at Cunningham Shanor: your fast service gave us back hot water within two days. After mucking about in the mud for hours, we were so happy to take hot showers. I suspect everyone around us was also gleeful we could get clean.

Disaster Restoration Services, especially Kenny & Tom: much appreciation for your guidance and patience. You have been invaluable in helping make some semblance of order out of our chaos.

The Polzer family: best neighbors ever. Thank you to Mike, Chrissy, Michael, Gus, Shane, Jacob and Wesley for helping us to salvage what we could in very little time. Your quick assistance saved so many irreplaceable items, our gratitude knows no limits. Also, sorry about your yard and fence, you all have been most gracious. We very much appreciate all you have done for us.

The DeFoggi family, Brian, Colby, Kortney, Kelsie and Shayna: My goodness, there are no words. Thank you, doesn’t seem to cover all you’ve done, but we do thank you all.

Last but certainly not least, Butler City Fire Department: Without you the damage would not have been contained or manageable. The hours and hours you were here assisting were what saved the water from rising beyond a level of no chance of recovery. Chief Nick Ban, your men were all the greatest, with a special nod to Don.

For all who helped, called, sent food, lent a hand or offered empathy, we are extremely grateful. The recovery from the flooding is a process, not an event. You all have helped tremendously in our ongoing trudge to the finish line.
