Bernardi, Kelly joining Hall of Fame

BUTLER TWP — Retired Butler High School football coach Art Bernardi and one of the best linemen he’s coached, Mike Kelly, will be inducted into the Minor League Football Hall of Fame Saturday.

The induction will take place at 11 a.m. at the Heinz History Center and Sports Museum in Pittsburgh. Admission to the ceremony is free.

Bernardi was 179-64-7 as Butler’s head coach from 1961 through 1985. Three of his teams had undefeated regular seasons. Other high school coaches being inducted with him Saturday are Braddock’s Chuck Klausing, Beaver’s Pat Tarquinio and Aliquippa’s Don Yanessa.

Kelly was a teammate of quarterback Terry Hanratty at Butler and Notre Dame. Now a U.S, congressman, Kelly is receiving the Ray Mansfield Award, because iof his football career and contributions toward Pullman Park and youth sports in the community.

A buffet lunch will be served at Rivers Casino following the induction ceremony. Cost to attend the lunch is $34.
