Butler Township Police

Thursday — Bryan Lee Griffith, 33, of Butler was arrested on a felony shoplifting charge in connection with an incident March 14 at the Walmart at Butler Commons. Police said the suspect allegedly removed packaging from two Xbox video game controllers and walked out of the store with the items valued at $106.

Police noted that Griffith was banned from the store in 2009 for a similar incident. The defendant, who has three prior shoplifting convictions, was arraigned on a felony count of retail theft and a summary count of defiant trespass. He was released on his own recognizance following arraignment.

Thursday — Jamie F. Hook, 42, of Butler was charged with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop at 1:09 a.m. April 12 on Whitestown Road.

In addition to driving under the influence, Hook is charged with two stop sign violations, careless driving and failing to notify authorities of a change in address.

Thursday — Police charged Christopher R. Wright, 33, of Grove City with drunken driving in connection with a traffic stop at 12:32 a.m. April 11 on New Castle Road at Greenwood Drive.

Wright is charged with DUI, driving with an open container of alcohol, a stop sign violation, careless driving and failing to notify authorities of a change in address.

Thursday — Paula Ann Schwartz, 29, of Evans City was charged with stealing seven items valued at $115 in an alleged shoplifting incident April 13 at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. Schwartz is charged with retail theft.

A police report noted that because the defendant was barred from the Walmart store for a similar incident in 2014, she also faces a charge of trespass.

Grove City Police

Wednesday — An unknown burglar made off with unspecified property after breaking into a home, while the occupants were upstairs, in the 400 block of West Washington Boulevard. The break-in happened between 9:30 p.m. and 6:50 a.m. Wednesday. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-458-7925.

Tuesday — Jewelry, DVDs and a cell phone were stolen in a burglary at a home on Gilmore Avenue. The burglary occurred between April 17 and Tuesday. Police have no suspects. Anyone with information is to call police.

April 16 — An unknown thief stole $20 from a vehicle parked in the 500 block of State Street. The theft happened April 15 or 16.

State Police, Butler

Monday — Police charged an Oklahoma man with stealing a pair of $400 elephant-skinned boots last month from the Altmeyer’s Western Wear store at the Clearview Mall in Center Township.

The suspect, Cody Bill Smith, 36, of Jay, allegedly walked out of the store with the boots. Minutes later, according to court documents, he returned to the store and bought a pair of boots worth $215.

Smith is charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property.
