Wynn E. Hammond

Wynn E. Hammond, 65, of Harrisville, formerly of Mantua Township, N.J., died at 6:36 a.m. Thursday at Jameson Hospital in New Castle after an extended illness.

Born in Washington D.C. on Aug. 28, 1949, she was the daughter of Wayne E. Waddington and Doris Foutz Waddington.

She married Dennis Hammond in 1976.

Wynn retired from Salem City Schools in Salem, N.J., where she was an art teacher for kindergarten to 12th grade for 25 years. She formerly taught in the New Wilmington School System in New Wilmington, Pa., for 10 years.

Wynn grew up in the Harrisville area, attended school and graduated from Slippery Rock High School, Class of 1967. She earned her undergraduate degree from Westminster College in art education and her master's in education from Edinboro University.

Wynn enjoyed her cats, gardening, cooking and vacationing on Shelter Island, N.Y. Mostly she enjoyed her grandchildren and working on her art projects.

She is survived by her husband Dennis, at home; one son, Slade B. Spencer and his wife, Nellie, of Westmont, N.J.; two grandchildren, Samantha and Andrew Spencer, both of Westmont, N.J.; one sister, Joy Drilling and her husband, Dr. John Drilling, of Centennial, Colo.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Wynn was preceded in death by her parents.

HAMMOND — A funeral service for Wynn E. Hammond, who died Thursday, April 23, 2015, will be at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Willard Morse, visitation pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation hours will be at the Cunningham Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Burial will take place at Prairie Cemetery in Harrisville.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Audubon Society of Western PA, 614 Dorseyville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15238.
