BC3 students named to state Academic Team

Duo among 47 that were honored

BUTLER TWP — Two Butler County Community College students on April 13 were inducted into the 2015 All-Pennsylvania Academic Team by the Pennsylvania Commission for Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for two-year colleges.

Andrea Dean of Valencia and Jenna Massaro of Ellwood City, along with 45 other community college students from across Pennsylvania, were honored at the 21st annual All-Pennsylvania Awards Banquet in Harrisburg.

The students, representing each community college in the state, were honored for academic excellence and demonstrating a commitment to their colleges and communities.

Pennsylvania’s community colleges partner with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education universities to provide scholarships to All-Pennsylvania Team members at state system schools.

Dean, who graduated from Mars High School in 2013, plans to transfer to Edinboro University to study speech and hearing sciences. Her goal is to earn a master’s degree.

She is active in the Rho Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at BC3 and led the development of BC3’s 50th anniversary time capsule. Outside of college, she volunteers as a youth group leader at her church.

Massaro has not yet selected a transfer university, but she plans to pursue a doctorate in English and creative writing.

She has been on the dean’s or president’s list every semester and is the vice president of the Rho Phi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at BC3.
