Butler Police

Wednesday — Police charged Sara Beth Johnson, 21, of Butler in connection with a suspected hit-and-run wreck April 18 on Center Avenue. The crash happened about 2:40 p.m. when Johnson backed her car into the front of another vehicle, according to court documents.

Police said Johnson and the other driver pulled over but the suspect moments later drove away. She didn’t go far before stopping and jumping out of her car, document. Officers caught her a short time later.

A search of her purse turned up seven empty stamp bags of suspected heroin and a spoon.

In addition to hit-and-run, Johnson is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and improperly backing a vehicle.

2:36 p.m. Tuesday — Michael G. Watt, 38, of Butler was arrested on a warrant at North Main and Brady streets. Police found Watt after they were called to assist a constable in the arrest. While speaking to the suspect, according to court documents, officers smelled a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from him. A search of his back pack later turned up a hypodermic needle. Police charged Watt with possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness.

Butler Twp Police

7:11 a.m. Wednesday — A car driven by a 16-year-old Butler girl struck another vehicle at New Castle Road and Route 68. Police said the girl, who they did not identify, failed to yield the right away to the other driver, Gail Jordan, 57, of Butler.

6:58 a.m. Wednesday — A 17-year-old Butler girl, who police did not identify, was hurt when the vehicle she was driving rear-ended a truck that was legally parked on the side of Greenhill Drive. The collision pushed the truck into the back of a trailer hitched to another vehicle. A family member took the girl to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. Police said she was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

Tuesday — A 16-year-old Butler boy allegedly threatened to throw a desk and chairs at teachers during an altercation at the Butler Intermediate High School. The incident happened when the boy, who police did not identify, got into an argument with another student. After teachers moved in and broke up the argument, the suspect threatened the teachers. He is charged with harassment and disorderly conduct.

8:40 p.m. Monday — Zachary Birckbichler, 34, of Butler was caught with suspected drugs following a traffic stop on Penn Avenue. Police said Birckbichler is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with an open container of alcohol and a stop sign violation.

Grove City Police

Thursday — A wallet and Blu-ray player were stolen from a vehicle parked at a home in the 500 block of Woodland Avenue. The theft happened between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 5 a.m. Thursday. Police have no suspects.

11:07 p.m. Wednesday — Laura L. Clements, 56, of Brewster, Mass., was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence at West Main and Elm streets. Police said she also was cited for making an improper turn.

April 22 — An unknown thief between 7 and 10 p.m. stole a set of golf clubs from a vehicle in the 400 block of East Washington Boulevard.

State Police, Butler

2:03 a.m. today — Elizabeth Tatomirovich, 26, of Mercer was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Staff Road near Muddy Creek Drive in Brady Township. Police said Tatomirovich also faces a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana and traffic violations.

7:20 a.m. Thursday — Cara M. Lutz, 33, of West Sunbury was hurt when she lost control of her car and struck a ditch on Hooker Road near Dassa McKinney Elementary School. The car ended in heavy brush about 30 yards off the road. Lutz, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with injuries.

Thursday — An unknown burglar made off with numerous items of jewelry, several laptop and notebook computers, several cell phones and professional hair care products from a home in the 100 block of West Liberty Road in Brady Township.

The suspect got into the house through an unlocked window. The burglary happened between 7:35 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.

Thursday — A Ruger revolver was stolen from an unlocked vehicle at a home on Beatty Drive in Saxonburg. Also broken into were two other unlocked vehicles at Bernies Trailer Park in Winfield Township. In addition to the handgun, among the other items taken from the three vehicles were pool sticks, tools, a credit card and loose change. The thefts happened between 12:01 and 6 a.m. Police remind residents to lock their vehicles.
