Knoch's Geist sets best, again

Knoch sophomore Jordan Geist uncorked a throw of 69 feet, 1 inch in the shot put to set a personal best and Baldwin Invitational record Friday afternoon.

Geist won the shot put at the prestigious Penn Relays April 24 with his previous-best throw of 67-1¼.

Tennis

The Mars boys tennis team edged Peters Township 3-2 in the WPIAL Class AAA quarterfinals to advance.

Softball

Nikki Matz tossed a two-hit shutout as Seneca Valley cruised to a 6-0 section win over Moon.

Elayna Nagy led the Raiders (11-3, 10-3) at the plate with three hits. Matz also had a pair of singles.

Matt Yough singled and drove in two runs and Evan Stitt and Cody Deal each had doubles as Karns City edged Venango Catholic, 5-3.

Eric Dodd picked up the win on the hill for the Gremlins, striking out five in five innings. Marcus Lantz earned the save.

Karns City was coming off a 19-0 win over Union Thursday. In that win, Holden Martin struck out 14 in six innings of work and Yough tripled, singled and drove in five.
