Day of fun planned at library

MARS — Mars Public Library Day will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 16 at the library, 107 Grand Ave.

The day of fun will include a model train display, story time, petting zoo, face painting, food and presentations on fossils, historic Mars and telescopes.

Old Stone House cooking returns

BRADY TWP — Slippery Rock University’s Old Stone House, at the intersection of Routes 8, 528 and 173, will host early American cooking classes again.

Classes will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 16 and 23, June 20, July 11 and 18, Aug. 8 and 15, Sept. 12 and 19 and Oct. 10.

Most lessons will feature a bread, main course and dessert. Classes will include traditional open hearth cooking and also use the new outdoor bake oven. There will be a recipe book, hands-on instruction, demonstration and recipe tasting.

Register at least two weeks in advance. The class size limit is eight students.

Garden market, home show set

The Butler County Chamber and the Butler County Master Gardeners will host the 2015 Spring Garden Market and Home Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 16 at Alameda Park, 184 Alameda Park Road.

The day will feature plant sales, landscaping materials, specialty food and crafts.

Frogtown Center hosts craft show

CHICORA — A crafter and vendor show will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 16 at the Frogtown Community Center, 381 Kaylor Frogtown Road.

Divorce, custody seminar offered

Lifesteps will offer a Families Forever webinar from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 16 at Lifesteps, 300 Stirling Village, Route 68.

Families Forever teaches how to minimize negative effects on children involved in divorce and custody.

Fall prevention topic of event

GIBSONIA — Bakerstown United Methodist Church, 5760 William Flynn Highway, will host a session at 10:30 a.m. May 16 for information to prevent falls and reduce the risk of injury from falls.

About 20 to 30 percent of people who fall suffer moderate to severe injuries. The presenter will be elder care manager Lorna Gavin, founder of Aging Gracefully.

Moraine site for Great Strides

PITTSBURGH — The Western Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Chapter will host a Great Strides walk at 10 a.m. May 17 at Moraine State Park on the north shore at pavilions 4 and 5.

The walk will be family- and pet-friendly, non-competitive and include games and food. Participants will set their own fundraising goals and can organize teams.

Funds raised will support progress for those who have the inherited disease cystic fibrosis which causes debilitating lung infections and premature death.
