Firefighters save ducks from sewer

CRANBERRY TWP — These were some lucky ducks.

Cranberry Township volunteer firefighters Sunday evening helped rescue several ducklings that had gotten stuck in a storm sewer at Cross Creek Drive and Rochester Road.

The report of frantic quacking shortly before 6 p.m. sent firefighters to the scene.

“There were ducklings stuck in the (sewer) pipe,” said one firefighter. The baby ducks apparently followed their mother across the sewer grate and fell in, eventually getting trapped in the pipe.

Rescuers opened the grate, reached down and plucked the ducks out of the pipe.
