3 teens arrested at Butler prom

Suspected drugs found in car

BUTLER TWP — Prom night ended early for three Butler High School seniors caught in a car with suspected marijuana and other contraband, authorities said.

Butler County Community College Police on Friday charged Nicholas D. Delano, 18, and Conner P. Thomas, 18, both of Center Township, with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Police also cited Luke O. Baranchak, 18, of Butler Township with a summary count of disorderly conduct.

Police said they came upon the suspects about 9:20 p.m. May 8 while patrolling the campus where the high school had its prom. The three were in a car in a parking lot.

Police approached the car and saw Baranchak with a glass bong in the back seat. They also smelled burning marijuana coming from the car.

Delano was in the driver’s seat, and Thomas was in the front passenger seat.

A search of the car, documents said, turned up two Mason jars containing suspected marijuana buds. Police also found suspected marijuana wax, a concentrated, more potent form of the drug.

Additionally, the search yielded glass smoking pipes, a grinder with suspected marijuana residue and other paraphernalia.

Police read all three teenagers their Miranda warnings. Afterward, Delano and Thomas claimed all the items seized were theirs, documents said.

Baranchak was cited, police said, because he tried to hide the suspected bong.

Police took the suspects to the station, and they were released to their parents.
