Homecoming Butler native brings his comedy to BLT
A stand-up comedy show is planned for Memorial Day weekend at the Butler Little Theatre, One Howard St.
The headliner will be Robert Punchur, a Butler native who has performed in New York City, Los Angeles and London.
“I started performing at open mics when I moved to NYC for college. I was studying journalism and thought stand up could help strengthen my writing,” Punchur said.
“After realizing how much I enjoyed performing, I asked for a job bartending at one of the larger venues in the city. I used that time to hone my act, study headliners, slip on banana peels, and learn about the comedy community.”
This weekend’s shows will be the 2011 Butler High School graduate’s first time performing back home.
“I have an anxious excitement. This is my homecoming show. It is very personally significant. I’ve been performing nightly for the past four years but have held off on doing anything in Butler until I was confident that I could bring back a show that will make the town proud. I just hope that I remember how to speak Yinzer.”
The featured act will be New York native Neko White, a club regular who’s been featured on MTV’s “Hip Hop Squares” and in the comedy documentary “One Mic.”
Kevin Lukacs of Butler will be the host for the evening. He has written multiple plays for Hobnob Theater. As an actor, Lukacs has landed lead roles in plays and short films in the Butler area. He was co-host of The Polymath Podcast on iTunes.
Special guest will be Dillon Weston, a Butler native who regularly hosts Lava Lounge Comedy Night in Pittsburgh.
Shows will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
During the about 90-minute show, comics will be doing their New York City club material, so nothing is off limits. Punchur advises that the show is suitable for age 13 and older.
